Percussion Workshops

I offer workshops and courses that teach people how to play various percussion instruments, ranging from beginner to advanced levels. Our workshops are designed to provide support and help people learn to play the instruments they have never tried before.

Music is a tool to socialize, to create a sense of group, to develop people, and to show their potential artistic skills. The gathering is the meeting point where music connects to wellness, creativity and networking. It’s an opportunity to perceive, interact, and collaborate.

Methodology

In my approach to education, I believe that it's not enough to transfer knowledge - I also prioritize stimulating critical thinking and creativity, as well as creating an environment where learning can flourish from many different sources. One way we achieve this is by promoting cultural exchange, creativity, and interaction among participants, including allowing them to take on the role of conductor and experience what it's like to lead the group.

Our goal is to make everyone feel safe and build a trusting connection with them, which requires sensitivity to their reactions, dividing attention fairly, smiling, actively listening, and offering positive feedback when they engage. From the start, we let participants know that it's okay to make mistakes and that they have the freedom to decide, choose, and explore for themselves. We provide a brief overview of what will happen and then let them try out the instruments.

According to research by Professor Lee Higgins, a community music expert, this type of interaction fosters a sense of safety, trust, and attachment that is essential for social development. The workshops are designed to create a welcoming atmosphere that encourages everyone to participate and flourish.

We believe that developing a musical skill is not just about practice, but also about creating a positive and supportive environment that helps participants discover and showcase their musical strengths. To achieve this, we use non-verbal communication, offer our own references with rhythms and musical "games," and draw on our experiences in percussion circles from different regions of Brazil, as well as workshops we've attended. We want to create a safe environment where people feel comfortable making mistakes and trying new things. We believe that a positive mindset and a joyful mood are key to success in our activities.

Bellow you can watch videos we created during corona times as a product of the online workshops. This format has allowed us to use our creativity and interact in many different ways. We created videos to celebrate birthdays, baby birth, International Day of Rock, and honour artists we like. It was very nice to learn rhythms, develop a sense of group, and, of course, have a lot of fun. Check it out!
