This Friday, April 17th, I will be playing at Teatro Munganga in Amsterdam for another edition of Gafieira Social Club, by Cabaret Brasil. The show starts at 8 PM and it is always a special night.
Gafieira Social Club is a dance concert dedicated to Brazilian instrumental music. The repertoire moves through styles like gafieira, samba, choro, forró, bolero, and more. It's a journey through the history of Brazilian popular music, brought to life by musicians who really live this music.
I have to say it is a great pleasure to share the stage with this group. Daniel Montes on guitar, Luis Mascaro on violin, and Angelo Ursini on clarinet are musicians who carry this repertoire with a lot of depth and love. They represent Brazilian music in the Netherlands in a way that I deeply respect. Every time we play together, it feels like the music is exactly where it is supposed to be.
Teatro Munganga itself is a remarkable venue. Founded in 1987 by Brazilian actors Claudia Maoli and Carlos Lagoeiro, it has been a home for Brazilian and diasporic culture in Amsterdam for decades. It is cozy, intimate, and the kind of place where music actually reaches people.
If you are in Amsterdam this Friday and want to spend the evening surrounded by good music and Brazilian rhythms, come by. The doors open at 8 PM at Amstelveenseweg, just by the entrance to Vondelpark.
See you there.
